Program Bio:
The Giiwinenama Project works with Indigenous people with disabilities and with their potential employers.
We offer participants work readiness training tailored to their circumstances. We provide a supportive environment focussed on their needs and goals. Our goal is to train participants and match them with meaningful employment opportunities.
We work collaboratively with employers to deliver resources to become more inclusive and diversified by creating accommodations and disability policies. Our goal is to break down barriers that prevent Indigenous people with disabilities from contributing to their communities through employment.
Training Summary:
This training session will be based on the Giiniwenama program. In this training session we will talk about the policies that have been developed through the program and the life skills and job readiness classes that were developed for the program. Individuals and employers who take part in this training will learn how the policies were developed, how to utilize the policies, and how to implement them in their organizations. The policies that will be discussed are the Indigenous focused Accommodations and Disability Policy, the Accommodations Guidelines and Procedures Policy, and the Modified Work Policy. We will also discuss the life skills and job readiness classes that were developed to prepare participants for their work placements. An Elder that has helped guide the creation of the policies and program will also be present at the training. The Elder will talk about the need for programs like the Giiniwenama program and how they have helped guide the program.
